Gracias Companera Mercedes ~ Yeah, I admit I was watching the U.S. Senate on C-SPAN most of today on the side while doing other stuff. After this Friday the Senate goes on a two-week Spring break. Must be nice!
Some of the Amendments and Provisions were interesting. I am sure there is a lot of lobbying going taking place ‘on the Hill’ this week, as usual, but I am also sure it has spiked up in recent weeks.
One’s attention on the whole immigration issue and its legal aspects will vary in accordance with one’s agenda. Who will study the ‘pdf’ version below? Maybe a brave soul can offer a legal synopsis!
The promising legal student looks at this key ‘hot issue’ of immigration reform’ from her perspective, the invisible illegal immigrant from another and the fresh movement organizer from yet another, each with different degrees and levels of interest and attention.
There are 360 degrees in a circle {which by the way was given to us by the Babylonians in Babylon ~ where Iraq is today}. Thus, there can be 360 different specific angles of looking at a subject, if only by one degree.
Thus, we should look at a given issue from as many different angles, viewpoints and perspectives as possible to avoid rigid thinking in our analyses. As the Last Poet’s taught me, the course of revolution is 360 degrees.
We should strive for positive reforms as much as we can without forgetting along the way that a valid relevant revolution is the ultimate solution, not mere reform upon a corrupt body politic. Let us not forget the grand strategic aim: the seizure of state power by masses of people led by their vanguard elements!

National Immigration Forum
The Senate floor debate on the Judiciary Committee immigration bill http://www.aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=18957
continues. Last night, Senator Lieberman (D-CT) filed a positive amendment on detention that addresses key due process protections including access to the legal orientation program, humane detention conditions, true alternatives to detention, timely and consistent parole procedures, among other issues. This amendment was co-sponsored by Senator Brownback (R-KS).
The following link is a section-by-section and fact sheet on the Lieberman-Brownback amendment.

Similarly, Senator Lieberman (D-CT) is expected to file an amendment that would strike provisions in the bill mandating for the entry of civil immigration violators into the National Crime and Information Center. Unfortunately, there are a handful of amendments that would make things worse for immigrants’ rights. For example, Senators Kyl (R-AZ) and Cornyn (R-TX) have offered an amendment that would increase the categories of immigrants who would be statutorily ineligible for CIR (i.e., immigrants with outstanding removal orders). If you would like to view the text and status on amendments to the Senate immigration bill, please see:

CONTINUE TO CALL AND WRITE YOUR SENATORS! Continue to express your concerns with the excessive detention and enforcement related provisions of the bill. Urge your Senators to support amendments that would ameliorate some of the harshest provisions, including those which would remove discretion from judges, expand the aggravated felony label, criminalize minor document related offenses, and expand immigration enforcement by state and local police. Related bill summaries can be found below.
