Sacramento, Califas: Today we had a great Marcha for Immigrant Rights aqui in Downtown Sacramento with about 7,000 or more people. There were points where I could not see the beginning of the Sacra Marcha from the end.
I was surprised in a good way to see this Hermana carrying her sign in memory of our fallen Martyr Anthony Soltero who is surely gone too soon, though, his spirit lives on!
I did not want to gloss over the nature of his death nor glorify it beyond reason. Companero Anthony's tragic death is a real sign of the kind of social and home pressures our youth are living under in these trouled times of war and rumors of war.
Many of our Chicano youth have constant clashes and conflicts with insensitive racist administrators in our school system, in the youth authority system and often with the 'occupying army' of the local police in our 'barriors'.
Many of our promising youth want and need good positive adult role models, both males and females, to help guide them in their lives and advise them in critical life decisions.
Those of us who are responsible adults should take the time to pay attention and listen to our youth, to encourage their continued educational efforts into colleges and to express our sincere appreciation of their youthful inspiration.
Our youth are our future! Let us cherish our future!
Si Se Puede!
